I am the DSO Affiliate Faculty for bassoon at Oakland University. I teach bassoon lessons, studio class, reed-making, and pedagogy class for undergraduate and graduate bassoon majors and minors. OU's rigorous curriculum, supportive community, and excellent ensembles make for an ideal learning environment for your musical journey.

Educational Resources

• Bassoon Fingering Chart: I created this fingering chart with beginners in mind. It includes the standard fingerings that all bassoonists use. Unfortunately, most fingering charts published in band method books are filled with errors. Use mine instead!
  
• Instrument Support Information: In addition to a seat strap, I use a support system for the bassoon that attaches to the right side of any chair. It loosely holds the instrument in playing position so that the left hand does not have to hold any weight. All the pieces of the support are inexpensive and can be purchased online.
  
• All-State Etude Videos: Every year, I make a video for Michigan's All-State Audition Etudes for middle and high school that includes complete performances of the etudes, as well as practice tips. You can watch the videos for 2025-26 and 2024-25.
  
• Orchestral Excerpts Guide: This document details how to prepare orchestral excerpts for an audition. It is intended for advanced players seeking an orchestral career.
